Book Report Format & Guidelines

Students in 4th-12th grade are required to submit a book report each quarter in English Literature and English Composition. If students are enrolled in both classes, the same book report may be submitted for both requirements. Book reports should be typed according to the following format and submitted to the class instructor for grading. Students may choose a book from the approved book lists below or ask the class instructor to approve a book not on the list. Please contact the class instructor if you have any questions about the required book reports.

Recommended Reading List for JR. HIGH and HIGH SCHOOL Students

• Prentice Hall's Book List for High School
• Prentice Hall's Book List for Middle School
• 100 Most Often Recommended Works

Required Book Report Format

• Your name & class - Your name, student Id #, and class this book report is being written for.
  
  
• Title & Author - The title and author of the book.
  
  
• First paragraph - A summary explaining what the book was about.
  
  
• Second paragraph - Any special characteristic of the book such as unusual subject matter, technical information, more detailed information on the subject.
  
  
• Third paragraph - A critique of the book describing your impressions of its effectiveness in telling the story or conveying the information.
  
  
• Fourth paragraph - How you liked the book and your recommendation to other readers.
