to locate the requirements for your state.
3. What about
students with illness?: Parents often write to
tell of a child with illness that keeps them out of school too long, or
with depression, or with some other medical treatable condition.
Because the illness limits the child's ability to keep up with
school, parents seek options. We originally began
this school with the philosophy of working with children with special
needs.
4. Dissatisfied
with Local School?: Many parents elect to
enroll their children with us because they are dissatisfied with the
curriculum of the school, the size of classes, or the lack of attention
that their children need from teachers and administrators.
5. What if we
move around the country a lot? Parents whose
jobs keep them on the road, traveling quite a bit enroll their children
with us. A student can access our web site from
anywhere in the world to keep up, keep in touch, and chat with other
students and instructors.
6. How about my
child's socialization? How does the Internet
Home School deal with making sure that students still socialize while
obtaining their education on-line? We urge parents
to seek opportunities for group and individual interaction in choirs,
bands, community theater, sports, and joining clubs. Some
of these activities also fit the requirements for physical education,
such as karate, dance class, etc.

8. Do students do
well with this type of study? A student
learning over the internet can get as much done in 4 hours a day as do
students who attend school away from home. Then,
factor in the time saved in transportation to and from school, the time
in moving between classes, and the distractions that occur during
class, and most people find that the time in studies is more
concentrated and learning takes place quicker.
9. How important
is accreditation? Many types of accreditation
can be claimed. originally, six regional
associations in the U.S were formed to standardize the methods of
schooling, adequate libraries, and certified teaching and professional
administrative staff. These standards must be met
before a school can be accredited. The value of
having accreditation is the transferability of
credits from one school to another within the six regional associations
membership. Accreditation is also significant with
a majority of colleges and universities..
10. What if I
wish to Return to Former School: From time to
time, parents wish to pull their child out of the local school for a
variety of reasons and indicate a desire to return the child to the
local school at a later date. In these cases, it is
best to get an agreement from the school for the return, so that there
are no surprises later on a transfer of credits. Some
schools that are not accredited by regional accrediting agencies can be
pretty sticky with transfer credits.
11. What are some
reasons for parents who enroll in this Internet Home School?
From the requests for information over the years, these are the
major reasons parents consider enrolling their children in this school.
a. Classes are too crowded and students
don't get the attention they need.
b. The local school is considered an unsafe
environment.
c. Gangs, drugs, and peer pressure.
d. Local school is too large, and
administration doesn't care about the individual student.
e. The child has a learning disability, and
local schools cannot accommodate classes to the individual needs.
f. parents have more input, and more control
over the child's progress and remain better informed with I.H.S.
12. How Soon Can
My Child Enroll? We offer “open
enrollment” at any time during the year. If
a student is in the middle of a semester, and wishes to leave his or
her school, we can place the student in the correct quarter to
correspond to the part of the school work already completed.
Parents need not wait until the end of a grading period or
semester before withdrawing from the local school.
13. How does this
type of learning work? This question asks how
we use the internet, textbooks, and on-line instructors to provide a
quality education to our students. it works this
way: The newly enrolled student is administered an
on-line assessment in English and Math. That
assessment is compared to the transcripts we receive from the former
school. We then prescribe courses, selected and
mail textbooks, and set up an on-line orientation with the student and
parents. The student accesses the syllabus for each
course, and finds the weekly assignments that need to be completed as
he or she works through the assigned work. Students
who wish to, may join on-line classes in chat room, net meeting, or
instant messages, and communicate with other students and teachers.
When the weekly work and weekly exams have been completed and
graded, the student makes a request for the quarterly exam.
Access to exams is controlled by password codes, and the student
completes the exam, and in some cases sends it back on line.
